In childhood neighbours are the adults whom we can trust ,and to whom we can turn in case of emergency, when our parents are not around.
But nowadays people communicate much less with their neighbours, sometimes families live side by side but know nothing about each other. And when you know little about somebody it’s harder to trust this person.
This story is about the pensioner from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, who managed to surprise his neighbours and shake them to the core.
87-year-old Ken Watson passed away in October this year. After the funeral his daughter showed up on the doorstep of his neighbours Owen and Caroline Williams, carrying a huge bag.
Mr. Williams assumed she needed help throwing away some stuff and was ready to go, but she gave him the bag and explained, that those were the things of his 2-year old daughter.
Dad Owen was surprised and worried, but when he opened the bag and realised, what was it about, his eyes swelled with tears.
The pensioner had prepared Christmas presents for 2-year-old Cadi, Mr. Williams daughter. There were fourteen of them, for each Christmas until she grows up.
The family was so touched, they decided to write post in twitter about this kind and generous gesture. They also ran a Twitter poll asking people what they should do with the presents: Open them now and rewrap them? Or have a lucky dip until 2032?
