The long-awaited DNA test results have finally been received by the 21-year-old who made headlines earlier this year by claiming to be missing Brit, Madeleine McCann.
Julia Wendell, who goes by the names Julia Faustyna or Julia Wandelt, gained widespread attention in February when she asserted that she was McCann, who went missing from a Portugal holiday resort in 2007 at the age of three.
Wendell created an Instagram account under the username “iammadeleinemccan” and presented “evidence,” including physical similarities with Madeleine.
She was forced to leave Poland due to death threats, but has consistently maintained her claim and denied any knowledge of deceit.
Last month, a Swiss artificial intelligence company conducted a facial recognition test to investigate the 21-year-old’s claim of being Madeleine McCann, and the results created significant doubt.
According to Sky News, Ava-X utilized its Iris facial recognition software and fed pictures of Wendell and McCann. The software concluded that it was highly unlikely for Wendell to be the missing child.
Christian Fehrlin, the co-founder of the company, confirmed that the system could identify a match between childhood and current photos of Wendell, but it could not find a match with McCann’s photos.
The family of the young woman has refuted her claim and expressed their opposition to it. They confirmed that they have photographs and memories of their daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and step-niece, and that Julia took them from their home with her birth certificate and hospital discharges.
Despite facing setbacks, Wendell has remained resolute in her efforts to put an end to the speculation surrounding her true identity. Recently, she made an appearance on the popular talk show, Dr. Phil, to shed more light on her case.
After being forced to leave Poland for her own safety, she relocated to the United States where she reportedly took a DNA test to prove her connection to the McCann family.
However, the results of the test revealed that she is not Madeleine and instead has Polish heritage with some Lithuanian and Romanian ancestry.
Speaking to RadarOnline, Dr. Fia Johansson confirmed that the test results indicate that she is indeed 100 percent Polish with a small percentage of Lithuanian and Russian ancestry.
Before the publication of the DNA test results, Dr. Johansson, who has been granted power of attorney over Julia, shared her intuition that Julia is not Madeleine.
She said, “We learned a few things, one being that Julia’s mother is now believed to be her mother, so she is not Madeleine McCann.”
However, while they are still investigating Julia’s father’s side through DNA testing, they are confident that Julia is not Madeleine.
Meanwhile, sources in the UK report that authorities are set to receive a substantial financial boost worth hundreds of thousands of pounds to aid in the ongoing search for Madeleine. A source close to the investigation expressed optimism, saying that this news will bring fresh hope to Madeleine’s parents.
