As expected, the 2024 Met Gala featured a plethora of weird and wonderful outfits, but actress Demi Moore arguably stole the show with the most eye-catching ensemble.
The 61-year-old made her first Met Gala appearance in five years, gracing the red carpet in a gown supposedly made of… wait for it… wallpaper!
The outfit in question featured heart-shaped wings fanning out from Moore’s sides and a pink-and-white floral design, which the actress complemented with diamond jewelry by Cartier.
After catching the attention of photographers and fans worldwide, Moore revealed that the dress was “not heavy at all” and actually made her “want to rumba.”
The elegant gown, created by Harris Reed, is indeed fashioned from wallpaper. Reed explained that the project took an astounding 11,000 hours of silk embroidery.
“It all started with this incredible Cartier necklace that Demi is wearing,” the designer said at the event. “It was inspired by the floral feeling it gave me. The whole piece is made out of vintage archival wallpaper. We repurposed it. It’s 11,000 hours of silk embroidery that we’ve repurposed into this idea of her blooming on the carpet. I wanted to be the vines to her thorns.”
Moore last attended the Met Gala in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. On that occasion, she wore an all-black gown with a plunging neckline by Saint Laurent.
Last month, the Indecent Proposal star turned heads at Dolce and Gabbana’s 40th anniversary party. The 61-year-old actress wore a see-through black dress with basic black undergarments and simple black heels. Letting her dress steal the show, Moore kept her makeup light, with soft-pink lipstick and bold mascara. She didn’t wear any jewelry for the event, and her dark locks tumbled down to her waist.
“She looks unreal for her age. BRAVO,” one person wrote on Instagram.
Another commented: “Her and Cher I swear are vampires and the most beautiful women in Hollywood. As a nurse, I can unfortunately tell their age by the way they walk, as well as with Madonna. Our gait and bones are something we can’t have plastic surgeons fix. Kudos to all of them for aging beautifully. I hope to be like them one day.“
