For those among you who count yourself fans of Ben Affleck and/or Jennifer Lopez (or at the very least find yourselves looking for updates as to their widely-reported marital struggles) we’ve got perhaps the biggest indication yet that divorce is, unfortunately, on the cards…
In recent weeks, much has been said about the shaky state of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage. TMZ reports that the couple is quietly trying to sell the home they bought together after their wedding.
According to reports, they purchased the lavish Beverly Hills mansion for over $60 million last year. Unfortunately, Ben has reportedly moved out of the house as their marriage is now on the rocks.
The Dogma star is renting a place in Brentwood, California, while sources told TMZ that J-Lo is looking for her own place.
The gossip site claims that ‘Bennifer’s’ home has been on the market for around two weeks, though no buyers have come forward yet.
Interestingly, the couple is reportedly asking for “around $65 million” for the property. Though this seems like a substantial sum, the reality is less rosy.
TMZ notes that broker’s commission, a new tax on ultra-expensive properties, and the money Ben and Jennifer spent on home improvements mean they would face a loss of millions of dollars if they were to sell.
And that, dear readers, suggests to me that they’re approaching the ‘sell at any cost’ stage, indicating they’re not inclined to hold on and try to repair their marriage.
On the contrary, attempting to sell their home is arguably the strongest evidence yet that they are headed for divorce.
As you’ll recall from last week, Lopez canceled her planned North American tour to be with her family.
“I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary,” the superstar wrote.
“I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time…”
Meanwhile, Ben has been spotted several times without his wedding ring, and the couple’s recent public appearance together – watching Ben’s son’s basketball game last weekend – did little to inspire confidence that they are working through their problems.
