Dolly Parton has enjoyed a long and immensely successful career in the spotlight.
The iconic singer’s talents have spanned decades and styles, making her a constant presence at the pinnacle of the entertainment industry for as long as most can remember.
Despite her legendary status, she still faces criticism.
Recently, reports indicate that some critics have been giving her a hard time about her appearance, even as she nears her eighties….
Dolly Parton, 77, is a household name in both country music and the celebrity world.
The Tennessee native has become a true legend, delighting her legions of fans with her performances and singing throughout her life.
In a recent interview with Pollystar, Dolly Parton announced that she will no longer be touring. She shared:
“I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore.”
Despite growing up in poverty in the Appalachian Mountains, Dolly reached the pinnacle of the entertainment world and will certainly be missed on stage.
Though her popularity is undeniable, there are still those who criticize her for her appearance…
In fact, her appearance has been a contentious issue almost since her career began. Dolly has recalled people advising her to abandon her signature look if she wanted a real career.
“The main advice people wanted to give me was to change my look – to go simpler with my hair and the way I dress,” she explained. “They would say not to look so cheap, that nobody was ever going to take me seriously.”
Over the years, the mean comments have persisted. Some people feel even more justified in labeling Dolly in ways that seem wholly unfair.
One Twitter user wrote, “Dolly Parton is one ugly lady,” while another said, “Dolly Parton is so ugly, but she’s got nice breasts.”
Despite the unkindness and vitriol from folks online, Dolly remains upbeat and defiant. She’s perfectly comfortable with her body and looks and isn’t about to change for anyone.
“It costs a lot of money to look this cheap,” she once famously said.
As for her husband, the country icon has revealed in the past that he loves her no matter what.

“He doesn’t care if I’m fat,” said Parton. “He’s never turned off. He’s fool enough to think I’m the sexiest, prettiest woman in the world.”
It’s no wonder Dolly still craves success and new challenges. In 2022, she embraced her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame releasing an album that some may consider outside of her usual style.
Fans were thrilled when Dolly Parton was considered for a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after her stellar career. However, sources suggest the superstar was initially reluctant to be nominated. She felt that, since her career is mostly rooted in country music, others might be more fitting for the honor.
In the end, the people spoke, and voters decided Dolly deserved a place in the Hall of Fame. In November, she was inducted and immediately began working to ensure her selection was justified.
I don’t care what anyone says—I think Dolly Parton is incredibly talented!
