Gordon Ramsay is thankful to be alive and credits his survival to the doctors, nurses, and staff at a Connecticut hospital, as well as the one “absolutely important” thing that he says saved his life.

Over Father’s Day weekend, the celebrity chef shared a frightening story with his fans on social media. Even a week after the accident, Ramsay was still shaken.

“This week I had a really bad accident while riding my bike in Connecticut,” he wrote.

“I’m doing okay and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries, but I am a bit bruised up, looking like a purple potato.”

Ramsay, an avid cyclist, emphasized the importance of wearing a helmet, no matter how short the journey or the cost. “They’re crucial,” he stated.

“I’m lucky to be standing here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week, and I’m sort of getting through it,” Ramsay said, lifting his shirt to reveal a massive bruise.
