Following her previous suggestion that Jelly Roll could replace her on American Idol, Katy Perry now advocates for a female star to take her seat on the panel.
The 39-year-old singer, who appeared alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan on the show, expressed to E! News, “That would be too many men, let’s be honest. But we love Jelly Roll, and I’d love for him to be on this show whenever it’s appropriate.”
Emphasizing the need for her replacement to be “honest and bold, not scared of negative comments,” Katy highlighted the heightened scrutiny she faces compared to her male co-stars, stating, “When you have an opinion, when you’re bold, when you’re a female, it just happens.”
Earlier in April, Katy had endorsed Jelly Roll as her top choice for the position, praising his impact on the show: “I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show. I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything.”
Now stepping away from American Idol to focus on other career ventures, Katy Perry seeks a successor who can be a “truth teller” on the panel, unafraid to speak candidly yet gracefully.
