Mariska Hargitay pauses ‘Law & Order: SVU’ shoot, after little girl comes up and tells her something in private.

For a quarter of a century, Mariska Hargitay has portrayed a police officer on screen. However, an unexpected turn of events blurred the lines between fiction and reality when she was mistaken for a genuine officer by a little girl.

Taking a break from filming, the actress and mother of three dedicated approximately 20 minutes to hear out the child.

When you find out what the case was about, it’ll bring tears to your eyes…

The girl was absolutely sure that she was looking at a real police officer in front of her. She was very scared and couldn’t say anything at first. The actress was able to calm the child down and find out what had happened.

According to a witness speaking to People magazine, a young girl got separated from her mother at Anne Loftus Playground in Fort Tryon Park on April 10. Unaware of Mariska Hargitay’s scene partner, Ice-T, and the filming crew, the girl approached Hargitay seeking assistance.

Hargitay halted production for 20 minutes to aid the little girl in searching for her mother. Fortunately, they managed to reunite within half an hour.

Since the premiere of Law and Order: SVU in 1999, Hargitay has portrayed Olivia Benson, and the show is currently in its 25th season.

It seems those years of portraying a police officer on television came in handy! Kudos to Mariska for her help in reuniting the young girl with her mother.
