Mom finds cute Easter dress at Target, but then she notices one detail that has the internet divided.

Meghan Mayer, a mother from Michigan, found herself embroiled in a debate over the appropriateness of children’s clothing during a routine shopping trip at her local Target. What started as a quest for an Easter dress for her daughters took an unexpected turn when she stumbled upon what seemed like an innocent garment but turned out to be a topic of contention.

While perusing the aisles of Target with her older daughter, Mayer came across a charming smock-style dress adorned with whimsical balloon sleeves, seemingly perfect for the upcoming Easter festivities. However, her initial enthusiasm was dampened upon closer inspection of the dress. What caught her attention were the subtle yet significant cutouts positioned at the waist, raising eyebrows and prompting Mayer to question the garment’s suitability for young girls.

“I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, what in the world is going on here?’” Mayer told Today.com.

As a self-professed conservative parent when it comes to dressing her daughters, aged 7 and 10, Mayer found herself grappling with conflicting thoughts. The juxtaposition of the dress’s innocent design with the unexpected cutouts left her questioning whether she was overreacting or if her concerns were warranted.

She asked her audience on TikTok what they thought of the dress, and users were divided.

Many people agreed with Mayer writing, “I completely agree. My daughter is 4 and is in a 6/7. Absolutely inappropriate.”

“That dress is SO CUTE until you see the slit. Why did they have to ruin it like that?!?”

One person blamed retailers for “trying to mature our kids too fast.”

However, there were plenty of people who did not find an issue with the cutouts.

“When I was a kid in the 70’ s I wore halter tops and tube tops they were not seen as big deals. I don’t think this is scandalous.”

“Overreaction for sure. It’s super cute! Now if it was super short or low cut I would 100% get where you’re coming from.”

“I bought this for my six-year-old. I think it’s super cute.”
