The Rolling Stones, formed in 1962, have achieved legendary status in rock music history.
Mick Jagger, now 80, stands as one of the greatest rock icons of all time. His knighthood by Queen Elizabeth 22 years ago, becoming Sir Mick, underscores his influence and legacy.
Jagger co-founded the Rolling Stones with Brian Jones (guitar), Charlie Watts (drums), and Keith Richards (guitar) in January 1962. Watts passed away in the summer of 2021, and Jones departed from the band earlier.
Today, the band includes Jagger, now 80, Keith Richards, 80, and bassist/guitarist Ronnie Wood, 76, and they continue to sell out arenas globally. Last year, they released their first full-length album with new material in 18 years, “Hackney Diamonds,” which received critical acclaim and was followed by a successful tour. The album features collaborations with fellow music icons such as Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John. Lady Gaga contributes backing vocals on the track “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.”
For more than six decades, Jagger has been one of the world’s most renowned artists, which has naturally put his private life under the spotlight.
Part of this attention stems from his large family. Jagger has eight children: his eldest daughter, Karis Jagger, was born in 1969, and his youngest son, Deveraux, arrived in December 2016.
The globally acclaimed performer, known for his distinctive on-stage charisma, married his first wife, Bianca Jagger (formerly Pérez-Mora Macías), in 1971. The couple tied the knot in Saint-Tropez, where crowds gathered to congratulate the star and his Nicaraguan-born bride.
Together, they have a daughter, Jade Jagger, now 52 years old. Jade transitioned from modeling to gain recognition for her interior and jewelry design work.
Bianca Jagger gained notoriety for her social life. Reports claimed she rode into her 27th birthday party at New York’s Studio 54 on a white horse, but it later emerged this was a myth.
In a letter to the Financial Times, later reprinted in Vogue magazine, Bianca recounted the incident. Studio 54 co-founder Steve Rubell had seen a magazine photo of her riding a white horse in Nicaragua and thought it would be a fitting birthday surprise.
“It was a beautiful white horse that reminded me of mine, and I made the foolish decision to get on it for a few minutes,” she wrote. The photographed image circulated widely, spawning the myth that she arrived at Studio 54 on a white horse.
According to People magazine, both Mick and Bianca had extramarital affairs, which they were aware of. Ultimately, Bianca filed for divorce after Mick began dating model Jerry Hall.
In 1978, their divorce was finalized, and as part of the settlement, Bianca received $1.2 million, according to New York Magazine. She has rarely discussed her former marriage to the Rolling Stones star publicly. However, a few years ago, she told The Guardian that the divorce felt like a failure.
“I was brought up Catholic, to believe that marriage is for life. And we failed,” she said.
Following her split from Mick Jagger, Bianca moved away from her party princess image. In the 1990s, she dedicated herself to advocating for vulnerable people globally through her work with Amnesty International. Her efforts earned her the Right Livelihood Award, often referred to as the “alternative Nobel Prize,” in 2004. According to Aftonbladet, the award jury recognized Bianca Jagger for leveraging her celebrity status to aid those in need.
Mick Jagger is currently in a longstanding relationship with American choreographer Melanie Hamrick, aged 36. The couple has been together for ten years and have a child.
