Many people, including prominent celebrities, are expressing strong opinions about the participation of Algerian Olympian Imane Khelif in this year’s Paris Olympics, particularly questioning her gender.
The controversy intensified during the women’s 66kg boxing quarterfinal, where Khelif faced Italy’s Angela Carini.
A powerful punch from Khelif led Carini to withdraw only 46 seconds into the match, fueling further debates among those who question Khelif’s gender, arguing that it was unfair for Carini to compete against someone they perceived as not ‘female.’
Celebrities Logan and Jake Paul have openly criticized the Olympic Committee’s decision regarding Khelif’s eligibility.
Logan initially described the decision as “the purest form of evil,” though he later retracted his statement and deleted his original tweet which claimed, “This is the purest form of evil unfolding right before our eyes. A man was allowed to beat up a woman on a global stage, crushing her life’s dream while fighting for her deceased father. This delusion must end.”
The controversy escalated when Paul referred to Khelif as a man, prompting the YouTuber to delete his original post and issue a retraction…
His new statement read, “Oopsies, I might be guilty of spreading misinformation along with the entirety of this app. Although she’s been previously disqualified for failing a ‘gender test’ and has XY chromosomes, some sources claim Imane Khelif was born a biological woman.”
Paul concluded, “I stand by my belief that biological men should not compete against biological women in sports, and if you disagree, you’re a sick f***.”
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields expressed her dismay, saying she was “heartbroken” for all the women competing in boxing at the Olympics this year.
J.K. Rowling, known for her critical views on transgender issues, also weighed in, stating, “The smirk of a male who knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head, and whose life’s ambition he’s just shattered.”
Other notable figures, including Elon Musk, Dez Bryant, and Sauce Gardner, have shared their opinions on the matter.
