Spanking, once considered a common disciplinary measure, has become a topic of heated debate in recent years.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has taken a firm stance against it, labeling it as ineffective and potentially harmful.
However, there are still parents, like Kelly Clarkson, who defend its use.
And here she explains, why she feels this way…
Growing Up with Spanking
Kelly Clarkson, hailing from Texas, reminisces about her upbringing where spanking was a norm rather than an exception. Southern culture often embraces physical discipline as a means of teaching respect and obedience.

Kelly’s Parenting Style
Despite the controversy surrounding spanking, Clarkson admits to incorporating it into her parenting approach. She clarifies that her definition of spanking doesn’t involve harsh physical punishment but rather a mild form of correction.
Kelly, who has two kids, River Rose, 8, and Remy, 6, said that she “is not above spanking” in terms of discipline. “I don’t mean hitting her hard,” she said. “I just mean a little spanking.”
“My parents spanked me, I did fine in life and I feel fine about it.”
Clarkson, renowned for her achievements as a singer, songwriter, author, and TV personality, recently earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
However, she openly acknowledges that her parenting style is controversial. In public settings, she finds it challenging to discipline her children, acknowledging the disapproval from onlookers.

Despite this, Clarkson remains steadfast in her belief in spanking as a disciplinary measure. She even admits to the possibility of resorting to spanking her child, even in places like the zoo. However, she emphasizes that she always warns her children beforehand, stating her intentions clearly. According to her, this approach has proven effective in reducing undesirable behavior.
“I’m like, ‘Hi, I’m going to spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now, this is ridiculous,’ and honestly it’s really helped. My kids don’t do that kind of stuff as often.”
Now, the question arises:
Do you agree with Kelly Clarkson’s method of disciplining children? Or do you believe that every parent should have the autonomy to discipline their children as they see fit? Share your thoughts with us on our Facebook page.
