Non-White Parents Welcome Black and White Twin Boys. They are all grown up today.

Stacy and Babajide, a couple from Lagos, Nigeria, had been hoping to expand their family and give their beloved daughter a sibling, like many parents do. Little did they know that an incredible surprise awaited them during their ultrasound appointment.

The 31-year-old Nigerian woman, Stacy, was overjoyed when she discovered she was expecting twins. However, she could never have anticipated the remarkable twist that awaited her during childbirth.

As Stacy arrived at the hospital for her scheduled cesarean section, she was filled with excitement. She knew that her baby boys, Daniel and David Omirin, were about to make their entrance into the world. However, once she and her husband caught sight of their newborns’ faces, they were left astounded.

On February 26th, 2019, the unique twins were born just minutes apart. However, apart from their shared big brown eyes, Daniel and David looked nothing alike. Daniel had dark skin and curly black hair, resembling his older sister Demilade. In contrast, David was born with golden curls and fair skin.

Stacy and her husband, both of African descent, were taken aback by the stark contrast in their twin boys’ appearances.

“We had no idea about their differences during the pregnancy. The ultrasound didn’t reveal anything, so it was a tremendous surprise when our first twin, Daniel, came out with black hair, and the second twin, David, had golden hair,” Stacy shared with Bored Panda. She added, “Since I had a cesarean section, the doctors remarked, ‘It seems you’re having completely non-identical twins.’ Before I knew it, nurses started coming out to see them.”

The twins’ distinct looks puzzled and confused many people. Stacy revealed that many find it difficult to believe that she is the mother of both children or that Babajide is the father of both.

When the babies were born, their appearance didn’t matter to Stacy. She vividly remembers the nurse’s words upon the delivery of Daniel. “Daniel came first, and then the nurse said the second baby has golden hair. I thought, how can this be possible? I looked down and saw David, he was completely white,” Stacy recalled in an interview with The Daily Mail.

However, she wasn’t sure how her husband would react. Fortunately, his response was what one would expect from any proud father.

“Their dad was truly overwhelmed and immediately named our second twin, ‘Golden.’ He fondly calls him Mr. Golden. He was overjoyed to see his boys. He stood there for more than 10 minutes, gazing at them, and said he was just admiring God’s incredible work. He considers them his greatest gift ever,” Stacy shared with great joy.

Of course, Stacy and her husband are the biological parents of both twins, despite their striking physical differences. David was born with a rare genetic condition known as oculocutaneous albinism, which results in a lack of pigmentation in the skin, eyes, and hair, giving albino individuals a unique appearance.

Initially, Stacy had concerns about David’s well-being and how people would react to him. Oculocutaneous albinism is associated with medical issues such as sensitivity to sunlight and eye problems. Fortunately, David has not faced any serious health complications.

In Nigeria, where the family resides, it is estimated that over two million people live with albinism. The World Health Organization states that one in 5,000 to one in 15,000 individuals in Sub-Saharan Africa are born with the condition. In Europe and North America, the prevalence is lower, with approximately one in 20,000 people having some form of albinism. Living with albinism in Nigeria can be challenging, as discrimination and questioning are common. However, Stacy has not yet experienced such negative encounters.

“When we go out, there are always whispers and people wanting to know what’s happening. Maybe due to their cute and adorable nature, you just want to come close to say hello,” Stacy shares.

Due to their extraordinary appearance, modeling agencies have shown interest in featuring David and Daniel in their campaigns. Stacy, who happens to be a clothing designer, would love to see her boys pursue modeling careers. However, her current focus is on raising awareness and educating people about David’s condition.

To share their journey and create awareness, Stacy has created an Instagram account where people can learn more about the boys and witness their growth.

Although the boys are twins and best friends, they possess distinct personalities and interests. Daniel is an outgoing child who loves food, while David prefers observing his surroundings from a distance. Despite their differences, both boys are loving and kind-hearted.

“People often ask, ‘Excuse me, madam, which one of the kids is yours?’ I simply respond that both of them are mine, and people look at me as if I’m joking. But even as their mother, I was surprised when they were born. When the doctor told me they were not identical, I didn’t know what to expect. But then I saw their different hair and skin colors, and I couldn’t believe it. So, I’m not surprised that others are also shocked,” Stacy explains.
